It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of our dear colleagues and long-time Navigators, Rose Elaine Reece and Esther Jean Fulks. Tragically, they were involved in a car accident on Monday morning, leading to their lives being taken far too soon.
Rose and Esther were more than just colleagues; they were cornerstones of the Cultural Wellness Center and pillars of the community. Since 1998, they tirelessly dedicated themselves to improving the lives of others through roles as employees, consultants, board members, and team members. Rose was actively employed with the Cultural Wellness Center at the time of death.
As Navigators, they embodied and upheld the mission of the Cultural Wellness Center to “To unleash the power of people to heal themselves and build community”. Through their remarkable efforts, they empowered individuals to rediscover their inner strength, connect with their cultural roots, and transform their lives.
Their work was deeply impactful, encompassing:
Assisting people in finding housing, food, and clothing.
Helping those facing financial burdens, such as rent assistance.
Advocating for families and children.
Supporting survivors of domestic violence and those impacted by child protection or addiction issues.
Guiding people through healthcare and other systems processes.
Making home visits and wellness checks, as well as accompanying individuals to doctor’s appointments, grocery trips, and more.
Assisting people in building kinship networks and fostering community connections.
Their dedication went far beyond their professional responsibilities. Rose and Esther believed in the inherent power of every individual to heal and thrive. By walking alongside those they served, they not only provided support but cultivated environments where people could build resilience, foster relationships, and find belonging.
We were truly honored to have worked alongside Sister Rose and Sister Esther. They reminded us daily of the transformative power of service, love, and cultural connection. They were not just Navigators—they were beacons of hope, guiding people toward brighter futures.
In this time of grief, we stand united in mourning their loss while celebrating their extraordinary lives. Their unwavering commitment to building community and fostering healing will guide us as we continue their mission.
We extend our deepest condolences to their families, especially their loved ones who we will wrap our arms around. We encourage our team and everyone impacted to lean on each other for support as we navigate this shared sorrow.
Rose Elaine Reece and Esther Jean Fulks left this world better than they found it, and their spirit will remain forever in our hearts.
